Fire Extinguishing and Suppression

Clarkson can undertake a full site survey and design, supply, install and maintain the suppression system that best meets your ongoing needs.

Whether you need to protect a large server room, computer systems or other critical equipment, we’ll identify the suppression system that is most appropriate to your requirement.

    • Water extinguishing systems

For larger commercial sites as well as fire detection we can maintain firefighting systems:

Sprinkler Systems

Include a network of pipes filled with water under pressure and individual sprinklers are placed along the piping to protect the areas beneath them. Because the pipes are full of water, if fire breaks out, the air temperature above the fire rises and the sprinkler activates when the air temperature gets high enough. The sprinkler sprays water forcefully over the flames, extinguishing them completely in most cases, or at least controlling the heat until the fire services arrive. Only the sprinkler nearest the fire activates.

  • Wet Risers:
Are predominantly for the emergency services to connect into for firefighting emergencies. Wet risers are a system of pipes that are kept full of water at all times that may be quickly dispensed in the event of an emergency. The water supply for a wet riser is usually pumped from a central storage tank, to specific valves on each floor.
  • Dry Risers:
It is a network of pipes, that may be connected to an external water source and used to distribute water. A dry riser can be linked to multiple levels of a building, making it a quick and easy option for distributing water quickly and safely in the event of a fire. The system consists of the pipes, external inlets and outlet valves. When they are not in use the dry risers pipes are filled with compressed air that is only released when water is pumped in.

Water Mist

A Water Mist system works on the same principle as a sprinkler system but uses less water as the system discharges a very fine water mist which blocks heat and absorbs heat efficiency through evaporation and cooling the surroundings.

Fire Hydrants are an integral part of fire safety and are used by the fire services to access water from the local mains supply fire hydrants should be inspected and tested once per year to ensure the water pressure and flow rate are adequate.
